Race Rules

Please read these Race Rules carefully before participating in this scheduled POWERMAN competitive event and related activities (collectively, the “Event”) and other activities. In consideration of the services of Fresh Events Asia Sdn. Bhd. (“POWERMAN”) in allowing me to participate in the Event, I acknowledge and agree to comply with the following Race Rules.

Rule 1: Successful registration for the Event is only confirmed upon: i) true and accurate completion of the online registration process for the Event; (ii) signing of the Participant Assumption of Risks, Waiver, Release and Indemnity Agreement; (iii) payment in full of registration fees for the Event; and (iv) issuance of an identification number (which is used as the athlete’s Bib Number) for the Event.

Rule 2: POWERMAN reserves the right to refuse entry to the Event at its sole discretion and without assigning any reason.

Rule 3: Athletes are strictly prohibited (not allowed) from transferring their assigned Bib Number for the Event.

Rule 4: Athletes must attach the assigned Bib Number to their attire to be permitted entry to the Event. Athletes failing to wear / display the assigned Bib Number correctly may be asked to retire immediately from the race by an Event Official and / or Security Officer.

Rule 5: All athletes must participate and compete in the age-group division corresponding to the athlete’s age as of the date of event.

Rule 6: POWERMAN Non-Drafting rule. “Drafting” means to remain within the bicycle draft zone of another athlete for a period longer than twenty five (25) seconds. Drafting during the Race is prohibited. The bicycle draft zone is twelve (12) meters long, measured from the leading edge of the front wheel and extending towards the back of the bike (five (5) bike lengths of clear space between bikes). Athletes may enter the draft zone of another athlete when passing and must continuously progress through the draft zone. A maximum of twenty five (25) seconds will be allowed to pass through the zone of another athlete. Prior to entering the draft zone of another athlete, athletes must move to the side of the athlete being overtaken (i.e. no slipstreaming). Failure to do so will result in a drafting violation. Athletes must remain outside of the draft zone except when passing. Failure to do so will result in a drafting violation – ‘stop and go’ penalty or ‘black box’ penalty. A “pass” occurs when the overtaking athlete’s front wheel passes the leading edge of the front wheel of the athlete being overtaken. The overtaking athlete may not back out of a draft zone after entering into it. Once an overtaking athlete enters the draft zone of another athlete, a pass must be completed. An overtaken athlete must immediately drop out of the draft zone of the passing athlete, and must continuously make rearward progress out of the draft zone of the passing athlete. Re-passing by the overtaken athlete prior to dropping out of the draft zone will result in a violation. Overtaken athletes who remain within the draft zone of the passing athlete for more than twenty five (25) seconds will be given a drafting violation. Athletes must ride single file on the far-left side of the bike course road except when passing another athlete (or for reasons of safety). Side-by-side riding is not permitted and may result in a drafting or blocking violation. Exceptions: An athlete may enter the drafting zone without penalty only under the following conditions: (i) if an athlete enters the drafting zone and completes a pass within twenty five (25) seconds; (ii) for safety reasons; (iii) entering and exiting an aid station or transition area; (iv) an acute turn; and (v) if an Event Official exempts a section of the course because of narrow lanes, constructions, detours, or for other safety reasons. Athletes who impede the forward progress of other athletes will be given a blocking violation.

Rule 7: Any athlete asked to retire from the race by any member of the Official Medical Staff, Event Director, Referee, Event Official and/or Security Officer must do so immediately.

Rule 8: Any athlete asked to retire from the race will be deemed disqualified and shall not be entitled to receive a Finisher Medal, Finisher T-Shirt, Finisher e-Certificate and Official Finish Time.

Rule 9: Any athlete who starts to race before the official start time of their race category shall be disqualified. Any athlete who fails to start the race within twenty (20) minutes of the official start time of their race category shall be disqualified and POWERMAN reserves the right not to allow them to start.

Rule 10: The timing for all race categories will be based on gun time.

Rule 11: The Event cut off times for completion of POWERMAN Classic and POWERMAN Short shall be 5.5 hours and 4.5 hours respectively, from the first athlete’s start time. POWERMAN shall ensure the roads on the race route are closed to live traffic for this 5.5 hour period, after which roads will be re-opened. Athletes who are still on the race route after the cut off time and choose to continue racing do so at their own risk. POWERMAN reserves the right to re-open the race route to live traffic at any time without prior notice to athletes for operational reasons and/or to prevent operational hazards and/or risks to athletes and/or spectators and/or Event staff. POWERMAN shall not be liable for any loss and/or inconvenience caused from such actions. If an Event Official has reason to believe an athlete is unlikely to finish the race within the cut off time, they may request an athlete to retire from the race and board a safety vehicle.

Rule 12: The following are strictly prohibited (not allowed) on the race route: pets, in-line skates, prams, push carts, shoes with built-in or attached rollers and any other wheel-run objects. The exception to this rule is Official Event and Official Medical vehicles.

Rule 13: All elite athletes are eligible to win prize money, prizes and/or awards (“Prize” or “Prizes”). In the event that an athlete fails to satisfy the age, nationality and/or gender requirements for the category they have registered for, the athlete shall be disqualified and their eligibility for a Prize shall pass on to the next best finishing athlete within the category. Athletes must present their original identification document (Passport or Identity Card) and provide a copy of their identification number (Bib number) to collect their Prize.

Rule 14: In the event that an athlete wishes to make an appeal over their eligibility for a Prize, an appeal must be made within thirty (30) minutes of the Prize presentation by the athlete in person onsite at the Event via a written submission to POWERMAN and subject to an appeal fee of RM 150. In the event that an athlete wishes to make an appeal over their Official Finisher Position, an appeal must be made within seven (7) days after the Event by the athlete via a written submission to POWERMAN and subject to an appeal fee of RM 150. POWERMAN reserves the right not to entertain any appeals made outside of the above stated timeframe for appeal.

Rule 15: Athletes who successfully complete the Event shall be awarded a Finisher Medal upon presentation of their Race Bib to the respective Event Officials. Only athletes who successfully complete the Individual Classic & Individual Short races only shall be awarded a Finisher T-Shirt upon presentation of their Finisher Medal and Race Bib to the respective Event Officials. All Finisher Medals and Finisher T-Shirts must be collected on site at the Event. Athletes who successfully complete the Event within the cut-off time shall be entitled to download a Finisher e-Certificate from the POWERMAN website within ninety (90) days after the Event.

Rule 16: POWERMAN reserves the right to amend these Race Rules at its sole discretion. If there is ambiguity in any of these provisions, POWERMAN shall be the authority to interpret and in doing so will take into account the interests of all the affected parties.
